Air Seychelles hands over sensory room to adopted school

In a short ceremony held at the School for the Exceptional Child yesterday, Friday 14th July 2023, members of the Air Seychelles Tourism Club handed over the keys to a sensory room they had put together to the Head Teacher, Mrs Heidi Francourt. The event was organised in commemoration of the first anniversary of the school’s adoption by the national airline under the Tourism Department’s Lospitalite Lafyerte Sesel initiative.

The aim of the sensory room is to offer a therapeutic space for children with autism and other special needs, built with choices of equipment that can be used to improve a variety of physical and cognitive skills. Students with behavioural difficulties will also stand to benefit from the calm environment.

In her speech, Mrs Francourt thanked the airline for the donation, for it is a valuable and much needed contribution to the students. “I look forward to working with Air Seychelles on other projects involving the school and I hope we keep the good working relationship for many years to come.”

The morning’s program saw the participation of the Air Seychelles Choir with a lively performance and a beautiful song of thanks from the school. The room was then officially opened by Mr Benoiton and Mrs Francourt after having cut the specially made ribbon by the school’s more artsy students.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, Sandy Benoiton says ‘This has been a dream of ours for a while now, and to finally see it happen gives me immense pleasure. We will not stop here, but will keep adding to the room and other areas of the school as well. We intend to nurture this partnership with the school as much as we can as we have grown to love the kids. I would like to thank the Tourism Club members and others for their hard work in realizing this project, as well as our partners who have assisted where necessary.”

This donation was made possible partly through funds raised by the airline’s staff at the recent fundraising bazaar organised for the school by Air Seychelles on 07th July, but also with the help of some partners such as WePrint, SmartLiving, NeuroSey, and Woodworks Unlimited as well as through the volunteerism of the airline’s staff.
