HM staff donates Rs33,000 to Haiti Relief Fund

Through the national airline’s staff social and welfare club - The Creole Sky Club - Air Seychelles Staff collected RS33,000 amongst themselves and contributed to the Haiti Relief Fund manage by Red Cross Society of Seychelles.

Part of the funds donated was raised from ticket sales for a staff talent show held in November last year.

At the presentation ceremony held today at the airline’s Sales & Reservations Office at Independence House, the Chairperson of the Creole Sky Club, Mrs Nicole Mancienne presented the cheque to the President of the Red Cross Society of Seychelles (RCSS), Mrs Colette Servina.

Air Seychelles’ staff from various departments within the airline attended today’s presentation.

Speaking at today’s ceremony Mrs Mancienne said: “ I thank all Air Seychelles staff who have responded towards this appeal to help victims of the Haiti earthquake and also for the support and generosity shown through their contributions, which will definitely bring hope and joy to the affected people of Haiti ”.

Mrs Mancienne, who is the airline’s Head of Sales & Distribution in the Marketing Department, noted that Seychelles and Haiti share a lot in common as small island states especially as well as a Creole-speaking nation – and when this natural disaster hit the island earlier this year, this calamity brought major concern to the world including other island states.

On behalf of the RCSS, Mrs Servina thanked the staff of Air Seychelles for their concern and participating in the appeal made by Red Cross International worldwide.

She expressed her gratitude towards various organizations in Seychelles, including Air Seychelles for having joined in partnership with RCSS to raise funds to help improve the lives of the Haitian people.

Air Seychelles has been an active partner in raising funds for Haiti,as the national airline also sponsored the air travel for the Haitian classical guitarist , Amos Coulanges and his manager, DJ Ludovic who participated in a musical show held in aid of Haiti on Sunday 14th February at the ICCS. 

A total of Rs64,726 was raised at the concert and handed over by the organisers to the RCSS.

Since the earthquake hit Haiti on January 12, the island has witnessed some 200,000 Haitians perish and millions displaced with no homes. Assistance in all forms from other countries worldwide are still pouring in to assist with the rebuilding of Haiti.

This includes financial assistance from NGOs and aid relief organizations like Red Cross International of which the Red Cross Society of Seychelles is affiliated to.
